Was Mothers Day Meant to be a Commercial Hayday? (Answer: No!)
Its really awful that a day that women working for peace and social justice created has become a “buy these flowers and presents… 20% off” day. It is great for florists and restaurants financially but has obscured and distorted the original founders’ aims. The florists and restaurants should at least donate some of the proceeds to abused women in shelters or poor single mothers. There is no end to financially exploiting every occasion.Women need to do something about this. Expensive boquets of flowers and fancy dinners are a waste of money and the money could be used otherwise especially in these hard times. For more information on this, please see the wikipedia article about Mother’s Day’s founder, Ana Jarvis at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Jarvis) url.
